PEThealthcare
- All pet insurance policies are different and it's important
to understand your policy and make sure it suits the needs
of both you and your pet.
If
you would like to know more, here are answers to some of
the most commonly asked questions about pet insurance policies.
And, remember you may cancel the policy within 14
days if you decide it's not for you.
My
pet's not a recognised breed. Will PEThealthcare Pet Insurance
still cover me?
Yes, their insurance is designed to cover ALL types of cats
and dogs. That's because your Heinz 57 is just as likely
to
cause an incident as a pedigree, any type of pet can stray
or go missing and of course, vet's bills don't take pedigree
into account. What's more, the policy also covers the purchase
price of your pet whether they were bought from a
pedigree breeder or a rescue centre.
Do
you stop offering cover as my pet gets older?
No, and they don't refuse cover for senior pets either. Once
your pet's policy has been issued, they can be covered for
life. The only benefit that stops is when your pet is 11 years
old, they won't give you back the purchase price if they die
or have to be put to sleep through illness or natural causes.
All the other benefits continue.
My
pet has had medical problems in the past will you
still be able to offer cover?
Yes, but you will need to call them to discuss details of
your pet's previous treatments or problems so they can assess
the liability. In most cases they can issue a policy although
it may have a special exclusion this could be related
to a specific condition or to a limb or organ that has caused
past problems.
Does
the cost of cover increase as my pet gets older?
No, your insurance won't go up as your pet gets older or if
you make a claim (no matter how many claims you make). They
also don't charge more for larger breeds.
Are
there any dogs you won't cover?
Unfortunately, we can't offer cover for the following kinds
of dog (or cross-breeds):
- Racing
Greyhounds
- Any
dogs used for trade or business such as security guard
dogs
- American
Pit Bull Terriers
- Japanese
Tosas
- Dog
Argentinos
- Fila
Braxilieros
- Wolf
hybrids
Will
all my vet's bills be covered?
No. PEThealthcare Pet Insurance is there for the unexpected
so it's important to be aware that routine costs vaccinations,
boosters, worming treatment, nail-clipping and so on won't
be covered. Your pet will be covered for new medical problems
but not for anything that first arose before you
took out the policy.
Will
there be any delays if I have to claim for treatment by a
vet?
No, you can look forward to prompt and fuss-free claims service
from them. If you'd like a claims form, you can contact them
by freepost, telephone or email. They will post the claim
form immediately and this should be filled out by your vet.
As long as we've got all the details they need, most claims
are processed on the day the form is received. If you have
any problems or queries, their staff are knowledgeable and
helpful. You may also find it useful to read the policy terms
and conditions.
If
I claim, will that affect my insurance?
Generally, no. Many insurance companies add exclusions when
you renew your policy but PEThealthcare won't add extra ones
after you've made a claim. In fact, once they have accepted
liability for a condition or illness, you can carry on claiming
up to the maximum amount of benefit for that condition however
long that takes.
