CIS is a leading nationwide insurer with over 130 years' experience and a customer base in excess of 3 million. Throughout the UK they have around 4,000 representatives offering professional advice in customers' homes, tailored to their individual requirements.

The Society began in 1867 when the need for insurance to cover the rapidly growing co-operative enterprises ensured that CIS had a ready source of business. Then, with the expansion into life assurance in 1886, the pattern was set for CIS to become one of the country's major providers of personal financial services.

As well as life assurance and home and motor insurances, their range now includes pensions, mortgages, with-profits bonds, critical illness products, unit trusts and ISAs. They have evolved to meet the demands of our customers, and have remained firm to the co-operative principles that underpin their success. Policyholders benefit from their profits through bonuses and premium discounts, and all with a personal service to provide a high quality, 'one-stop' financial planning service.

CIS - Pet Health Insurance

Most people would agree that keeping pets is an expensive business. Vets' bills can be high if your pets become ill or injured and pets themselves can be expensive, both to buy and keep. Also, if it dies prematurely, is stolen or strays, some compensation may be required.

At CIS they can put your mind at rest by offering you comprehensive insurance for your pets. This provides the reassurance that should they become ill or injured you will be able to afford to restore them to health.

CIS has been awarded the Raising Standards Quality Mark by the Pensions Protection Investments Accreditation Board (PPIAB) following 18 months of hard work and investment of more than £2 million.

CIS is one of just 5 insurers to pass the intense and stringent tests to achieve the Quality Mark, which provides solutions to many concerns about products and practices of financial services companies.

The aims of the initiative are to: -

  • Promote customers understanding and awareness of financial products and services
  • Ensure that people taking our financial products are properly informed and kept in the picture
  • Encourage financial institutions to be more transparent in the information they give
  • CIS promised its customers that it would gain the Quality Mark in its second Social Accountability
  • Report as part of its commitment to openness and transparency in all of its operations.

Customers of accredited companies will benefit from a number of changes including the following:

  • All illustrations, key features documents and yearly statements will clearly describe a policy's costs and benefits by answering standard questions in a standard sequence.
  • With-profits summaries, which are new documents providing customers with clear information about how a with-profits policy works
  • 30 days to reflect upon their financial purchase - extended from 14 days
  • Full transparency of charges presented in a clear, understandable and comparable manner
  • The PPIAB will continue to monitor CIS's standards to ensure it continues to meet the high standards.
